What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a system of complementary medicine in which very fine sterile needles are inserted into the skin at specific points in the body in order to treat various illnesses and conditions. Acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been in existence for thousands of years, since at least 100 BC in China.
It is a safe, painless and drug-free intervention which treats both acute and chronic mental, physical and emotional conditions in a relaxing and engaging way with the patient.
What is Diagnosis?
There are many aspects of diagnosis in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Undoubtedly, a person's pulse and tongue are the most important tools in diagnosing a person's condition.
What is Qi or Energy?
By manipulating these needles at specific points in the body, the qi (or energy) in the body returns us to our original well-being and this brings us back into harmony (homeostasis) once more. Our qi restores us to our original health once again.
What is The History of Acupuncture?
It is said that Acupuncture came into being around the time, The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine" (or Huangdi Neijing) written around 2600 BC, came into being. Acupuncture is based on TCM theory and we know of its existence around 100 BC in China. By the 1st century many of the most important and influential books on this medicine had been published for example Zhen Jiu Jia Yi Jing (the oldest acupuncture book in existence). Society became more interested during The Ming Dynasty when they saw the great positive effects it held on a number of prominent figureheads in China.
What is Yin and Yang?
Yin and Yang theory came from Traditional Chinese Medicine over a thousand years ago. Originally it came from the observation of nature and the environment. Yin was the shady side of the slope whilst Yang was the sunny side of the slope. Yin and Yang are one whole being and yet are opposite to one another. They are dependent upon one another and yet cannot survive without each other. Each human being contains both Yin and Yang.
What can Acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture can treat almost any illness or condition by moving a person's qi (or energy) in the body and restoring the patient to homeostasis, that is maintaining a balance or equilibrium within the body. For example, I treat pain management, arthritis, frozen shoulder, back pain, infertility, skin conditions and digestive disorders. There are however many other ailments that both homeopathy and acupuncture are capable of treating also.
